7 Sweet Flavours to Embrace this Autumn & Halloween! 👻🕸🎃

Autumn is a favourite season for many, and for good reason. The leaves change color, evenings become a little cozier, and most importantly, we get to enjoy our favourite autumn flavours again. While we’re as partial to summer salads and barbecued sausages as the next person, there’s something uniquely comforting about the flavours of autumn.

We’ve put together this blog to talk about some of our favourite taste sensations for the spooky season, focusing on the sweeter side of life. We all love hotpots and stews, but today we’re thinking of things best enjoyed by the mugfull, infused into baked goods, or drizzled over your go-to puddings.

Salted Caramel syrup

#1: Salted Caramel

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, you’ll be well aware that salted caramel has been taking over the world of desserts and hot drinks, and rightly so! Salted caramel is great all year round, but it just hits a little harder in the autumn months. The sultry sweetness of caramel is cut through by a welcome pinch of salt to create something especially satisfying in coffees, hot chocolates, and in sauces.

Apples on a tree

#2: Apple

One of the best things about summer coming to an end is the return of pies and crumbles, and what’s a more classic filling than apple? There’s not much more comforting than tucking into a steamy spoonful of some stewed apples with your favourite sweet, crispy topping. Along with this you have the iconic caramel apple, which is a mainstay of Halloween fairs and parties! Plus, it’s also great with pork in a savoury dinner.

Pumpkin Spice syrup

#3: Pumpkin Spice

Originating from a certain Seattle-based coffee shop, this is a controversial choice that might ruffle the feathers of some more traditional coffee purists. But in our opinion, there’s nothing wrong with embracing the flavours of autumn head on! Cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg marry seamlessly to create this now-iconic spice combination, which makes for a warming, comforting experience that’s best enjoyed in a latte or cappuccino.

Bourbon whiskey glass

#4: Bourbon

Move over sex on the beach, it’s hot toddy season! Bourbon isn’t to everyone’s taste, but this subtly woody, quaffable smooth, and enticingly fiery variation of whiskey is a mainstay of the autumnal flavour palate. Whether you enjoy it in an old-fashioned, neat, or use it as an infusion for desserts, sweets, and even savoury meat dishes, this brown liquor is a cozy touch to all autumn recipes.

Vanilla sticks

#5: Vanilla

While vanilla ice cream might be one of the icons of summer, the flavour it’s based on is similarly suited to the slightly chillier autumn months. Vanilla, with all its aroma and fragrance, adds a seductively sweet and marvellously musky quality to drinks, baked goods, and sauces alike. It’s a great choice for inspiring some multi-sensory enjoyment to your recipes throughout autumn.

Ginger bread biscuits

#6: Ginger

Warming yourself up with food and drinks is one of the names of the game in autumn, and there’s nothing better for that in desserts and hot drinks than ginger. The potential sickliness of sweet treats can be offset by the playful pepperiness of ginger, while a hot honey and lemon with a touch of fresh ginger is a great way to ward off that seasonal cold as the temperatures start to drop.

Toffee Nut syrup

#7: Toffee Nut

This flavour combination is a stunning blend of two classic autumn sensations, creating something uniquely exciting in and of itself. The rich, slightly burnt taste of toffee is offset by the subtle savouriness of mixed nuts, resulting in something more satisfying than the sum of its parts. Toffee nut can be found in candies, baked into muffins, or as a delightful syrup addition for your favourite hot drink!
